North Water Street and East Wisconsin Ave Historic Building Located at this private address is one of the few remaining ironclad buildings in the USA. The building was designed by George H. Johnson, and built between 1860 and 1861. The metal facade was imported by ship and installed during the civil war. Historic Grain Exchange Room During the 1860s, Milwaukee exported more wheat than any other port in the world. In this tradition, Edward Townsend Mix designed this grain trading room in 1879. The Grain Exchange Room is a 10,000 square-foot room that was used in the trading of wheat, with three-story high columns and a painted ceiling of Wisconsin wildflowers.
